F16 with a 50mm macro and a tripod will get a better depth of field in case you want advice from a professional parts catalog photographer. Use manual focus and focus about a third of the way back. I love photos of small things!
Its the lack of depth of field that makes these pretty. Its a artsy thing. Sure for catalog photos you need to see the whole thing.
