Phil is writing up a maker-a-day over at Lifehacker, check it out! Today’s maker: HAM radio enthusiast Diana Eng… we posted about her last week, perfect timing!

Stop breadboarding and soldering – start making immediately! Adafruit’s Circuit Playground is jam-packed with LEDs, sensors, buttons, alligator clip pads and more. Build projects with Circuit Playground in a few minutes with the drag-and-drop MakeCode programming site, learn computer science using the CS Discoveries class on code.org, jump into CircuitPython to learn Python and hardware together, TinyGO, or even use the Arduino IDE. Circuit Playground Express is the newest and best Circuit Playground board, with support for CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. It has a powerful processor, 10 NeoPixels, mini speaker, InfraRed receive and transmit, two buttons, a switch, 14 alligator clip pads, and lots of sensors: capacitive touch, IR proximity, temperature, light, motion and sound. 1. Ok, she can be the MacGyver for the day. But damn! How did we miss the posting about the Bluetooth Startrek Communicator!??! http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2009/11/star_trek_bluetooth_communicator.html

  2. _._ _._. _.... _. _ .__.

That’s the best demo I’ve seen of how a directional antenna works. So where to I purchase the light bulb receiver kit 😉

  3. wow this is great. I hope ham radio gets another fresh start in the US. it is a dying hobby thanks in part to archaic FCC regulations (e.g a ban on encryption, discussions on the air restricted to hobby related)

If you listen to local 2meter repeaters recently they are either dead or have dull “on-the-way-to-from-work” traffic. hope that changes.
