Walt Disney Science series from 1957 describing the advent of the Nuclear Age. Dr. Heinz Haber, a noted scientist in the field of atomic energy, hosts this look at the possibility of an exciting new power source. He starts by comparing atomic energy to a genie in a bottle, both of which capable of doing both good and evil, and it is up to humankind to develop safe controls over this largely unexplored science… All 5 videos below….

These early Disney films are true classics and Dr. Haber was extremely talented at explaining scientific theory to the layman.
That was fascinating, this should be how people are taught difficult concepts.
I must have taken in more information on nuclear fission, the process and the history of discovery, then I ever did in high school.
Thanks for posting it.
Being technically proficient at a very early age, I had the privilege of hand threading “Our Friend the Atom” into the projector so our class could view it. I was good at getting the top and bottom loops right so the sound synced. VHS video was some time in the future in our financially strapped school district so we were still viewing slides, film strips and reel-to-reel films when everyone else abandoned them for the future.
There was this two reeler called “Neutrons for Peace” or some such that had scary stuff like “Operation Plowshare” which thankfully got abandoned before we got vast areas of “Chernobyl” all over.
love it 😀
