These are awesome calipers and they’re worth every penny- I use them every day. My calipers are 17 years old and they still work just like new.
“Use the thumbwheel to get a good tight grip on the material” – that to me sounds like a lot more force than should be used! It should be enough pressure to ensure good contact, but not enough to grip the object being measured!
Replaced my battery this year. >10 years since I bought mine but they are used weekly vs daily.
