Under the ruling, if hardware manufacturers adopt Omega’s distribution and legal tactics, it might be copyright infringement to re-sell your used computers, mobile phones and tablet computers produced in China.

  1. Some of the commenters on Wired are disagreeing with the author’s analysis of the decision. They are saying that all this means is that you can’t go overseas and buy something, and then bring it into the US to resell it without the copyright holders permission. If you do that, then the “first sell” didn’t occur in the US, and so the US laws that end copyright protection after the “first sell” do not apply.
