any more information on this massive amount of awesome?
Does anyone have an idea of how this thing works? My best guess is that the area that is used as a touchscreen is fogged glass, not transparent, and there is a projector sitting in front of the DJ. It throws a reversed image on the fogged glass, which looks normal to the DJ on the other side. Figuring out where they touched could be done with some kind of capacitive touch sheet over the glass. What do you guys think?

Is the touchscreen a commercial product separate from Smithson & Martin’s “emulator” software? It does look like a frosted glass pane with a rear projector but there doesn’t seem to be any wires around the top of the glass to indicate capacitive touchscreen? If you look around 49secs in the video at the bottom right of the touchscreen (from the DJ’s perspective) it looks like there’s an IR LED flickering…could that be some kind of IR laser that covers the surface of the glass that highlights the touch points to a rear IR camera?
Yeah – it’s commercial…uses a capacitive layer and a “frosting” layer to show the image…very cool.
Maybe not – there is a commercial capacItive screen available for DJs that looks very similar to this, but the author of that video says it *is* a projected IR-CAM based screen:
