FRIDA

Normally I would not post about concept ideas but this one was to good to pass up. Swiss robotics manufactures ABB, show us a new concept robot called FRIDA. FRIDA, which stands for Friendly Robot for Industrial Dual-arm Assembly, is the closest robotic equivalent to a production line worker I have ever seen. The design is based off of research being conducted by the FP7s project ROSETTA. The project is trying to develop robotic systems that can interact safely side-by-side human coworkers.

And more information can be found at the websites of ABB and Project ROSETTA.

Stop breadboarding and soldering – start making immediately! Adafruit’s Circuit Playground is jam-packed with LEDs, sensors, buttons, alligator clip pads and more. Build projects with Circuit Playground in a few minutes with the drag-and-drop MakeCode programming site, learn computer science using the CS Discoveries class on code.org, jump into CircuitPython to learn Python and hardware together, or even use Arduino IDE. Circuit Playground Express is the newest and best Circuit Playground board, with support for MakeCode, CircuitPython, and Arduino. It has a powerful processor, 10 NeoPixels, mini speaker, InfraRed receive and transmit, two buttons, a switch, 14 alligator clip pads, and lots of sensors: capacitive touch, IR proximity, temperature, light, motion and sound. A whole wide world of electronics and coding is waiting for you, and it fits in the palm of your hand.

  1. “Swiss robotics manufactures ABB, show us a new concept robot called FRIDA.”

You mean “Swiss-Swedish”, or maybe just Swedish. 🙂

The Frida (wich is a common swedish name) prototypes were manufactured and built in Sweden, although a lot of countries are involved in the development.

Swedish ASEA made cool orange robotic arms long before fusing with Swiss BBC (Brown Boweri Cie) to form the ABB (ASEA Brown Boweri) Group, and ASEA holdings still owns half of the ABB Group.

I so wanted one of those orange robotic arms when I was a little boy.
I kind of still do. They are actually quite readily available second hand here, but the prices are rather high, even for the old ones from the 80:s. At least too high to buy just for fun.
