“Bicycle Wheel + Walkman” at World MakerFaire

Spotted at World MakerFaire, this cool project by Adam Matta. I like the reference to Marcel Duchamp’s Readymade Bicycle Wheel.

Nicely done! Happy Friday!

Make a robot friend with Adafruit’s CRICKIT – A Creative Robotics & Interactive Construction Kit. It’s an add-on to our popular Circuit Playground Express, FEATHER and other platforms to make and program robots with CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. Start controlling motors, servos, solenoids. You also get signal pins, capacitive touch sensors, a NeoPixel driver and amplified speaker output. It complements & extends your boards so you can still use all the goodies on the microcontroller, now you have a robotics playground as well.

  1. Very nifty project. Funny, I missed the Duchamp reference at first…instead fixated thinking of Laurie Anderson’s tape-bow violin.

  2. De double oh de double oh style. Mix master mike would be proud. I was guessing til video started great work.

  3. Very cool!

Also reminiscent of Laurie Anderson’s violin with tape on the bow.

  4. I was like, umm what? Links are no help … then I looked very closely and realized it wasn’t to be attached to a rolling bike, but apparently a loop of magnetic tape mounted in the wheel that touched the tape heads. Looks like an analog loop that can be scrubbed to-and-fro.
