BREAKING NEWS – EAGLE V6 beta is here!

Pt 29

CadSoft invites experienced EAGLE users to participate in testing new versions

CadSoft invites EAGLE users to participate in testing new versions of the EAGLE Layout Editor.

We suggest that only users who already have experience with previous versions of EAGLE participate in the beta test. If you are new to EAGLE please use our current release version.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This beta version of EAGLE is NOT FOR PRODUCTION USE! Do not use it in any critical project, and only work with copies of your existing data files! Do not send board files created with this beta version of EAGLE to a board house – they may not yet be able to process the new EAGLE data files.
Any files written with this beta version of EAGLE will not be loadable with previous program versions!

Win, Linux and Mac downloads available.

Pt 30
Bummer, can’t run as freeware version as beta, mac (yet).

UPDATE: Andrew says “I just got it to launch on Mac OS X Lion by copying …/EAGLE/bin/freeware.key to …/EAGLE/bin/EAGLE.key” CONFIRMED: That worked!

  1. Is it actually v6? The file names label it as 5.91.1?

  2. I’m not sure if it’s actually v6. Board and schematic files seem to still be binary blobs, not XML.

  3. Where is the “Occupy EDA” Community? Why have the “Makers” and “Arduino” types which embrace open-source continue to gravitate to the highly restrictive and closed Eagle application so much – while for the most part ignoring the likes of KiCad etc. Yes KiCad may be a but clunky for some coming from Eagle (I hate Eagle’s UI by the way). But this would not be the case if the “Makers” etc., embraced the likes of KiCad and contributed to making it better over time.

  4. @drone – if this is important to you, get involved, write tutorials, make the software better, etc, etc.

we celebrate all the tools here and the goal of making them open, from the formats to the tool itself.

eagle’s xml export is a good thing for anyone who likes to use eagle to make oshw (or any hw)…

  5. Update: EAGLE is smarter than I am. New files are XML!

  6. @travis 5.9.1.1 is the Beta of V6. I was bit confused, too. Here’s are detailed break down of features:
