  1. In the mid-1980’s, I was a kid, but I remember reading in BYTE and Computer Shopper (once, it was a real magazine). Everyone I knew got either the Atari ST or (later) the Amiga.

    Some of the Atari ST owners got David Small’s "Spectre GCR" which let you plug MacOS ROM chips into the Atari (it worked, and you got a faster system than any current Apple product).

    I still remember showing these GUI systems, with WYSIWYG and drag and drop capabilities. The people least impressed were the die-hard PC owners (who just spent 5x-10x as much, probably on a PC or PC Jr). "Graphics are just for games", they’d say, right up until after Microsoft released Windows 3.0.
