An answer to your question! #6 “What is a good text or reference book to supplement a programming class based around the arduino?”

B. Smith asks:

What is a good text or reference book to supplement a programming class based around the arduino?

Well, personally I like Michael Margolis’ “Arduino Cookbook” as it was the most comprehensive book I could find at my local Barnes and Noble. His book is very informative and aims to detail both beginner and higher-level functionality through example projects that serve as a good reference for syntax, commands and technique. If you need a higher level programming reference, I would also recommend you look at the C Programming Language which although published in 1988 is a staple reference to the Arduino’s root language.

Also, it just so happens that there is a great overview of more texts here on Adafruit

You can also find some good info online:

A good programming reference is TK Boyd’s “Arduino Course” which provides a “sequenced series of articles about Arduino programming.”

Tronixstuff has a couple reference with a couple of chapters Arduino releated…….actually there are about 45.

Brian Evans published the Arduino Programming Notebook on Lulu which gives a nice “beginners” overview of programming syntax in addition to some basic circuits.

Earthshine Electronics has the “Arduino Starter Kit Manual” which has some good information utilizing components such as shift-registers……..but as you are in a programming course, this might not be super useful.

I hope this has helped with your search and good luck with your course!
