I shipped a new iPhone app a few weeks ago – “Resistor Photo ID”. It uses your iPhone’s camera to help identify resistor values. I specifically developed it with color blind people (like myself) in mind – who can’t successfully ID resistors even if they take the time to learn the color codes.

Yay! I’m using it right now to read the CAPTCHA. We’ll see if it takes fewer attempts than usual now. Definitely got the tolerance wrong, though. Gold and Silver hard to produce on screen, I suppose.

I have to try this one – hope it is better than “Ohm Sense” which gets it wrong most of the time…
Tried it on an in circuit resistor standing vertical, by holding the phone sideways. Got it right with a fuzzy pic. Not too bad.
It seems like it would be faster just to check the resistance directly with a multimeter.
