TJ3Sat: Together at last!

Since 2006 I have been teaching high school students the fundamentals of Systems Engineering through the research, design, and construction of history’s first high school satellite. TJ3Sat (tj-cube-sat) will enter low earth orbit later this year and will serve as an educational outreach tool to schools around the world. With its payload of a phonetic voice synthesizer, users can upload strings of text (which is checked for content for obvious reasons) and it will transmit it back as spoken word. Users will also be able to log on to the students web interface and view the latest telemetry.

Today was a big day. We finished the final assembly of our flight unit. The satellite in the picture will shortly be disassembled, conformal coated, reassembled and put into environmental testing. Once we pass testing, the next step is being loaded onto a rocket and shot into space! WOOOOHOOOOO!

    This project begs, screams for some interesting sensor(s) payloads such as:
    – Thermometers (not the same as IR thermometer
    – Pressure meters (adapted for low pressure of course)
    – A controllable photo camera!!!
    – radiation detector(s)!!
    – mini/micro/nano/pico-telescope in the satellite
    – IR thermometer (or an array of them)
    – many other interesting things…

    Seriously there is so much more interesting stuff to do.
    The thing they choose d is something that can be done everywhere and anywhere.
