“My Arduino can beat up your hotel room lock”

Brocious-Onity-Hotel-Lock-Arduino-640X353

Cody’s talk on opening rooms with an Arduino via ExtremeTech.

Well, my talk for Blackhat (My Arduino can beat up your hotel room lock) is over.  Things could’ve gone better in terms of execution — went through it too quickly and ended up using 30 minutes of my 60 minute slot.  But people really enjoyed it and I spent a good hour or so answering questions. Now it’s time to release everything. There’s still work to be done on the paper, but that will happen in time.

I’ll write more on all this in the near future, but now it’s time for sleep and all that.

  1. I always figured the electronic system was more for show than anything… so: 1) always use the mechanical lock on the door (i.e, the chain), and 2) don’t leave anything that you care about getting swiped or messed with in your hotel room. I won’t go into the pros and cons of carrying a self-defense weapon with you; as laws vary by location and personal aptitude is a major factor.

  2. @Britt, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7INIRLe7x0Y The chain is not very effective either… Will never be safe

  3. That was meant to be We’ll never be safe
