A mix of utilities and CAD and automation tools characterizes our first roundup of engineering applications for the iPad. In searching Apple’s App Store, it’s obvious that there’s a lot of low-hanging technical fruit. Most notable is the plethora of engineering unit conversion programs. We’ve included a few we found of particular interest to mechanical and industrial engineers. There are also many apps of value only to captive users of a particular vendor’s products; we’ve included some with widespread user bases.
Make a robot friend with Adafruit’s CRICKIT – A Creative Robotics & Interactive Construction Kit. It’s an add-on to our popular Circuit Playground Express, FEATHER and other platforms to make and program robots with CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. Start controlling motors, servos, solenoids. You also get signal pins, capacitive touch sensors, a NeoPixel driver and amplified speaker output. It complements & extends your boards so you can still use all the goodies on the microcontroller, now you have a robotics playground as well.
