The Dawning of Domestic Drones @ NYTimes.com.

The drones are coming to a neighborhood near you.

The unmanned aircraft that most people associate with hunting terrorists and striking targets in Pakistan are on the brink of evolving into a big domestic industry. It is not a question of whether drones will appear in the skies above the United States but how soon.

Congress has ordered the Federal Aviation Administration to quickly select six domestic sites to test the safety of drones, which can vary in size from remote-controlled planes as big as jetliners to camera-toting hoverers called Nano Hummingbirds that weigh 19 grams.

  1. I just watched the second Transformers movie “Rise of the Fallen” last night. The drones remind me of Starscream and the Decepticons.

I live near an air base and when they have these air shows, there is usually one accident and that is because it is expensive to service aircrafts and sometimes the maintenance records aren’t up to speed with a few hundred of hours of flying.

Expect to see some drones comming down due to cheap parts and failure. I was also reading in the newspaper about the military’s failure of their drones so expect to see some property damage in the near future due to incompetence. Flying is dangerous in itself and when you have a drone, there are things you can’t experience by sitting in a room which makes it more dangerous. I have a relative that is a pilot and flying is more dangerous than you think and my relative almost killed me up there in the sky.

  2. Drone crashes mount at civilian airports
