Another Donut Utopia, This Time in a Planned Community Outside Paris

Echoing Foster + Partners’ Apple headquarters (and to a certain extent, Rem Koolhaas’s Euralille), Danish architecture firm BIG unveiled their plans for a 200-acre urban-agrarian community called “Europacity” outside Paris, via A/N Blog::

The project aims showcase the possibilities of sustainable design, featuring an entirely walkable grassy rooftop, complete with a ski slope, “urban” farming, and below decks urban streets with plazas and storefronts, all linking directly by metro to Charles de Gaulle airport and central Paris.
Direct from architect Bjarke Ingels, via A/N Blog:

“EuropaCity will be an experimental hybrid between urbanism and landscape design,” said Bjark Ingels in a statement. “Center and periphery overlapped in simultaneous coexistence of a recreational open landscape of rolling hills superimposed on an urban neighborhood of walkable streets, plazas, and parks.”
