Watch out BIGDOG, here comes little cat robot

Thanks to the design of its legs, which faithfully mimic feline morphology, EPFL’s four-legged “cheetah-cub robot” shares the advantages of its biological model: it is small, light and runs very fast. In the long term, this type of machine, which is still in an experimental stage, could be used in search and rescue missions or for exploration.

  1. I notice that each experiment contains a harness containing multiple wires to the robot. Can you state what goes into this harness? Just power? Or computation?

    Thanks

  2. the back needs to be able to flex upward. this is the difference between cat and dog locomotion. dogs spines bend down like an "n" cat spines can bend up like a "u". If you add a spinal pivot which allows upward pivot motion, it will allow the cat to "reach" forward, and will be more lifelike :o)
