This is a cool machine! It’s a Sandvik DS310 Bolter; it keeps the drifts from caving in. Made in Lyon, France. It drills a 32mm hole 2m deep, into the ribs and back (minespeak for walls and ceiling; originally from working in the belly of the beast). Then it injects fast acting epoxy resin into the hole, jams a in rock bolt & torques it. Cycle time is about 90seconds, including the time required for the epoxy to firm up. Depending on ground conditions each bolt can have a pull out capacity of 50 tons.
It’s a scary feeling when they start popping out!
