Consumer UAV company restricts where you can fly – in the firmware (no Tiananmen Square)

Adafruit 1833

DJI RELEASED WOOKONG-M FIRMWARE 5.24 via Chris Anderson. This is in the feature update list for the firmware update –

Flight Functions are restricted within the radius of 15Km from Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China.

This is pretty intense and may end up being big news, this is perhaps the first commercial/consumer UAV/drone company restricting where your can fly a drone, in the firmware itself? The next questions who will be the first USA companies that does this (and for what locations) and will it matter if the firmware is open-source?
