Psychologist and hobbyist mapmaker Max Roberts took the typically “spaghetti” like form of the official MTA subway system map and stretched it out into an emanating arrow or quarter-circle from the financial district, with all subway lines stretching from lower Manhattan concentrically. Inspired by the new proposed maps for the London Underground that accommodated the new Orbital Rail Link, Roberts took the basic shape of the London tube map but altered it to fit the more irregularly formed lines under New York’s streets.
