How would you like to custom order a personal creature by creaturesfromel on Etsy? #3DThursday #3DPrinting
Here’s a share that is more about art and design than 3D printing — a character (creature) design practice that one artist has turned into a made-to-order creature shop. 3D makers who read this listing will appreciate the variety of creatures — and pay particular note to the minimal amount of input requested by this artist to trigger this level of creativity. Here’s listing for creaturesfromel on Etsy — check out more of these creations there.
This item is a custom order for a extra large sized creature to a very high level of detail. You can request any animal; realistic, fantastical, steampunk, gothic or surreal… or a mixture therein. These creatures generally range for 13-16 inches in length or height. They are often twice the mass of the ‘large’ size.
When you send your request, which you can include in the notes when you purchase this listing, vague details to work best, e.g. ‘I would like a turtle. I like cherry blossoms , Asian garden themes and deep green colours’. However I can also work from additional reference you provide such as illustration. I will only create original creatures, no copyrighted character designs.
*the difference between this order and the large size ‘personal creatures’ is this order is for creatures of about twice the size, by mass, and at least twice the complexity.
Each sculpture is handmade and painted with no more tools than fingers and a paint brush. By virtue of this primal process, each creation is completely unique and produced in a fluid and intuitive manner. The process begins with a handmade metal armature over which light weight clay is sculpted. The painting is done with acrylic or oil pigments and the embedded eyes are glass or acrylic. When complete the whole piece is glazed to intensify colour and strength. With inspiration derived from animal physiology and a love of the fantastic, grotesque and absurd, each sculpture is unique and personable. The immensely detailed craftsmanship is rich and thoughtful and never molded or replicated.
