Lighting sets a mood, it impacts the way we feel about a space and how we interact with it, too. Daan Roosegaarde of Studio Roosegaarde in the Netherlands has long toyed with the medium, recently winning an Index Award for his Smart Highway project, which uses light to create an interactive road that gives you added context like weather conditions and traffic situations. Where Smart Highway takes a practical approach, his most recent project, Crystals, is a totally different way to answer the question Roosegaarde is constantly striving to answer: What’s next in lighting?
