EE Bookshelf: Designing a Pedometer with a 3-Axis Digital Accelerometer

Interested in putting that accelerometer or 10DOF breakout to good use?  Step detection is an interesting problem to solve in SW, and while there are dozens of algorithms out there, Analog Devices put out a good, reasonably easy to digest algorithm in their ‘Full-Featured Pedometer Design Realized with 3-Axis Digital Accelerometer‘ app note.  It’s a good starting point if you’re trying to build a better fitbit yourself (though like any good algorithm, it’s all in the details and how you handle the edge cases!).
