Henrik Forstén has an interesting blog post on evolving analog circuits with genetic algorithms. Genetic algorithms work by randomly mutating an input, like a circuit design, over thousands of iterations until it maximizes a desired goal. Henrik uses SPICE software to simulate the circuit response at each step and help pick which changes get closest to the target circuit response.
