Build circuits into your clothing and accessories with wearables from Adafruit! Check out all the materials, boards, and sensors to help you create the wearable electronics of your dreams.
In addition to our FLORA and GEMMA sewable microcontrollers, Adafruit’s wearables category includes conductive textiles, battery packs, sensors and LEDs, and all-in-one packs perfect for beginners and as gifts.
FLORA – Wearable electronic platform: Arduino-compatible: FLORA is Adafruit’s fully-featured wearable electronics platform. It’s a round, sewable, Arduino-compatible microcontroller designed to empower amazing wearables projects.
FLORA comes with Adafruit’s support, tutorials and projects. Check out dozens of FLORA tutorials on the Adafruit Learning System, with more added every week by Becky Stern, director of wearable electronics, and our dedicated wearables staff.
The FLORA is small (1.75″ diameter, weighing 4.4 grams). The FLORA family also has the best stainless steel threads, sensors, GPS modules and chainable LED NeoPixels, perfect accessories for the FLORA main board. Read more
Adafruit GEMMA – Miniature wearable electronic platform: Love FLORA but want a bite-sized version? Look no further, GEMMA is a tiny wearable platform board with a lot of might in a 1″ diameter package. Powered by a Attiny85 and programmable with an Arduino IDE over USB, you’ll be able to realize any wearable project!
We wanted to design a microcontroller board that was small enough to fit into any project, and low cost enough to use without hesitation. Perfect for when you don’t want to give up your Flora and you aren’t willing to take apart the project you worked so hard to design. It’s our lowest-cost sewable controller!
The Attiny85 is a fun processor because despite being so small, it has 8K of flash, and 5 I/O pins, including analog inputs and PWM ‘analog’ outputs. We designed a USB bootloader so you can plug it into any computer and reprogram it over a USB port just like an Arduino (it uses 2 of the 5 I/O pins, leaving you with 3). In fact we even made some simple modifications to the Arduino IDE so that it works like a mini-Flora. Perfect for small & simple projects the GEMMA will be your go-to wearable electronics platform. Sensors! They’re great for bringing interactivity to your wearables projects, and the FLORA family of high tech sewable sensors just keeps growing. You can also use basic sensors like vibration switches and velostat for more straightforward sensing.
Metallic textiles can conduct electricity, bringing light to your NeoPixels or a switching action to opening Velcro or a zipper. Adafruit stocks stainless steel and silverized threads, fabrics, and other conductive textiles for your wearables projects.
EL Wire, tapes, and panels are a great way to make your project light up – whether you’re making a Tron Messenger Bag or a Glowing Hoodie. These easy to use wires and panels come in a variety of colors and shapes. Check out our EL Wire or EL Panel Starter Packs to get a good idea of the variety Adafruit offers or go straight to the EL Wire/Tape/Panel Section of the Learn System if you can’t wait to get started!
