A resource originally serving mostly the games industry has added new optimization options aimed towards 3D printing as well.

Simplygon: Automagic 3D Print Optimization:

…3D printing is awesome – allowing professionals and hobbyists to experiment, collaborate and creating prototypes with much faster turnaround time. It is a great way to receive valuable input and feedback as well as increase efficiency. 3D printing is however limited by many models not being intended for printing and therefore far from perfect. To be able to print successfully, models need to be converted, repaired and optimized. Simplygon has a unique understanding of CAD and 3D-scan meshes connectivity, topology and curvature, and will preserve the necessary details automatically giving you the high quality needed for your printing purposes. Simplygon will automatically create optimized models that are perfect for printing – regardless of printer type.

…Simplygon is developed by Donya Labs AB, a privately held company based in Sweden. Donya was founded in 2006 with the aim to be the premier developer of automatic 3D-optimization solutions. Today we are a leading provider in 3D game optimization and we remain dedicated to helping creators and users of 3D data across industries to optimize their content pipelines and streamline their workflows….

Every Thursday is #3dthursday here at Adafruit! The DIY 3D printing community has passion and dedication for making solid objects from digital models. Recently, we have noticed electronics projects integrated with 3D printed enclosures, brackets, and sculptures, so each Thursday we celebrate and highlight these bold pioneers!

Have you considered building a 3D project around an Arduino or other microcontroller? How about printing a bracket to mount your Raspberry Pi to the back of your HD monitor? And don’t forget the countless LED projects that are possible when you are modeling your projects in 3D!

The Adafruit Learning System has dozens of great tools to get you well on your way to creating incredible works of engineering, interactive art, and design with your 3D printer! We also offer the LulzBot TAZ – Open source 3D Printer and the Printrbot Simple Metal 3D Printer in our store. If you’ve made a cool project that combines 3D printing and electronics, be sure to let us know, and we’ll feature it here!
