The new cross-guard lightsaber seen in the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens spurred dozens of discussions and debates among fans. Is it a practical design? That remains to be seen, but I don’t imagine it was designed only for the sake of looking cool or for toys. Regardless of how it works, the tri-blade lightsaber does have a memorable silhouette.
