Radio Shack Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy – NYTimes.com.

Radio Shack, the long-ailing 94-year-old electronics retailer, filed for bankruptcy protection on Thursday.
The Chapter 11 filing, made in Delaware, had long been expected for the company, which has not turned a profit since 2011.

  1. Finally, it’s over. I don’t think that I’ve been into an RS since I needed condiments for my TRS-80 — when you couldn’t pry me out of the place.

    The “old Radio Shack” died about the same time as the Disposable Culture forcibly impregnated the country.

    Way too many things changed for anything that smelled like the old Radio Shack to survive. They’re the B.Dalton (in the airport terminal, to boot) of consumer electronics, and have been that way for decades. Their only hope of late (and the only flail that they didn’t try) would have been to also sell tapioca pearl drinks.

    RIP RS of the 80’s.

  2. Limor, you HAVE to swoop in and take over! Imagine what this business could be if it were taken back to its roots and there were classes on how to build ardruino projects for the community!
