Heath Ledger’s take on The Joker in 2008’s The Dark Knight is the most popular version of the character I see cosplayed at conventions. Sometimes people pair the creepy makeup with regular clothes or a suit for a more casual cosplay of the villain. It’s not a terribly difficult look to re-create, and Tiffany of YouTube channel iHasCupquake has a helpful tutorial to guide you. It only takes a few colors of face paints and some red lipstick to become part of Batman’s rogues gallery.
