I had planned on making a deadmau5 head for Halloween this year, but then I thought “That’s been done.” and decided to try my hand and creating an Adabot head instead. I started by making a wooden box, cutting a slot to see through, and cutting dowels and foam shapes for the ears and antennae. Then I wrapped everything in felt, put some screen up in the vision slot, and bolted an old skateboarding helmet I picked up from Goodwill into the box to hold it to my head. It looks great, and you can even dance in it!
Here’s my son modeling the finished product immediately after we finished construction.
Make a robot friend with Adafruit’s CRICKIT – A Creative Robotics & Interactive Construction Kit. It’s an add-on to our popular Circuit Playground Express, FEATHER and other platforms to make and program robots with CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. Start controlling motors, servos, solenoids. You also get signal pins, capacitive touch sensors, a NeoPixel driver and amplified speaker output. It complements & extends your boards so you can still use all the goodies on the microcontroller, now you have a robotics playground as well.
