The premise of this MicroUSB Plug to 5.5/2.1mm Jack adapter is simple. There’s a MicroUSB plug on one end and a 5.5mm/2.1mm DC barrel jack with center positive polarity on the other. This allows you to connect one of our 5V 2 Amp, 5V 4A or 5V 10 Amp adapters to something that expects to connect to 5V USB.
Since this does not have any resistors or other connections inside for the data lines, this won’t work for charging an iPhone, iPod or iPad or other device which expects some sort of resistance on the D+ and D- connections. It does, however, work great for Arduinos, BeagleBones, Raspberry Pi’s, many generic cellphones & Android devices, as well as most other USB-powered gadgets.
There is no regulator or voltage protection in this adapter cable. If you plug in a 9V or 12V power supply in, you could destroy something expecting only ~5V so be very careful!
Adafruit has had paid day off for voting for our team for years, if you need help getting that going for your organization, let us know – we can share how and why we did this as well as the good results. Stop breadboarding and soldering – start making immediately! Adafruit’s Circuit Playground is jam-packed with LEDs, sensors, buttons, alligator clip pads and more. Build projects with Circuit Playground in a few minutes with the drag-and-drop MakeCode programming site, learn computer science using the CS Discoveries class on code.org, jump into CircuitPython to learn Python and hardware together, TinyGO, or even use the Arduino IDE. Circuit Playground Express is the newest and best Circuit Playground board, with support for CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. It has a powerful processor, 10 NeoPixels, mini speaker, InfraRed receive and transmit, two buttons, a switch, 14 alligator clip pads, and lots of sensors: capacitive touch, IR proximity, temperature, light, motion and sound. A whole wide world of electronics and coding is waiting for you, and it fits in the palm of your hand.
