Starting on December 6th and running for the following three Sundays, the MTA will run the nostalgia train “Shoppers Special,” which boasts eight cars running from the 1930s to the 1970s. You can hitch a ride for the price of a Metro swipe at a local stop on the F Line from Queens Plaza to 2nd Ave starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. Transit history enthusiasts should catch the first run from 2nd Avenue, where there’ll be a pop-up museum shop onboard.
In addition to the trains, the MTA has rolled out vintage buses from the 1940s to the 1980s on the M42 route on weekdays until December 18th; you can also see vintage buses on display at Union Square, Herald Square and at the Circle Line Terminal.
