The ESTVG is a collection of scripts and programs running on a Raspberry Pi B+. The Raspberry Pi is a small Linux computer that is powered with just USB power.
Every 15 minutes the Pi downloads and processes a new AIA 171 image of the sun from Nasa’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO).
The Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) is a NASA mission which has been observing the Sun since 2010. Launched on February 11, 2010, the observatory is part of the Living With a Star (LWS) program.
Once a day at 8:05am PST, the Pi converts the downloaded images into a mp4 video running at 25 frames per second.
