An excellent short study on how one of Bowie’s iconic songs was crafted from the ground up by his longtime producer/audio engineer friend Tony Visconti.
Tony is sitting at the helm of a wrap-around API console recalling the process and track-by-track stackup of Bowie’s Heroes. The value here is listening to someone with absolute confidence in his craft talking about how he went about it. He covers using the room for ambiance on Bowie’s vocals using noise gates and and three mics, placed strategically at different distances, Robert Fripp’s three guitar tracks and Eno’s ethereal synth drones.
