We are loving this illustration from Julia Wertz up on Harper’s. Block transformations are a ceaseless source of amazement for New Yorkers, especially in downtown neighborhoods. One part nostalgia, one part sadness at gentrification’s inevitable and swift hand, looking back at the past is as much a part of New York as The Chrysler Building, Katz’s Deli, and Keith Hernandez’s mustache. Still, it would have been pretty epic to catch a show at CBGB back in its heyday.
