The Bank of Canada is hosting a campaign to nominate an iconic Canadian woman appear on a new bank note.
On 8 March 2016, International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Minister of Finance Bill Morneau announced that a new polymer bank note featuring an iconic Canadian woman will be issued in late 2018.
- The Bank of Canada is inviting the public to nominate women from Canada’s past who are deserving of this recognition.
- Our open call for nominations is now under way and will close on 15 April 2016.
Nominees will be considered if they meet the following criteria:
- They are a Canadian (by birth or naturalization) who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, achievement or distinction in any field, benefiting the people of Canada, or in the service of Canada.
- They have been deceased for at least 25 years.
Submissions of fictional characters will not be considered.
