Want to carry a cosplay prop that looks like wood without dealing with the weight of the material? You could use a light wood, or you could turn to PVC plastic. Instructables user zaphodd42 shared a tutorial on how to give the flat plastic a wood grain texture with sandpaper, a metal file, and oil paint. The file is key to giving the surface of the PVC the right texture. Pull up reference photos online so you can make the grain resemble one that would occur naturally. After the PVC is textured, oil paint is used to finish the effect.
