Labdoor : The Website that Lab Tests Supplements

labdoor-1

Biohacking one’s self often includes taking a daily regiment of supplements. We learn from research sites such as PubMed and Google Scholar about the positive effects of fish oil, but then confusion sets in when we are trying to decide which brand of fish oil capsules to purchase. Labdoor is a free site that profits through direct sale or affiliate links to supplements. The cool thing about Labdoor is that they walk right into a Walmart and pull a supplement off the shelf then send it to an FDA-registered laboratory for chemical analysis. Labdoor then provides an easy to understand grading system based on these five categories for the supplements they have tested:

  • Label Accuracy
  • Product Purity
  • Nutritional Value
  • Ingredient Safety
  • Projected Efficacy

The downside of Labdoor is that the site has only reviewed about two dozen types of popular supplements. The site is very helpful if you need to know which brand of Creatine, Multivitamin or Magnesium pill to purchase for quality and value, but not yet the place to determine which nootropics to start stacking with. I’ve found examine.com to be helpful on the nootropic front and filling in some of the supplement gaps.

The Quantified Body Podcast has an interview with Neil Thanedar of Labdoor that provides a clear summary of their goals.

  1. Thanks for this!! I’ve wondered if this exists. I always felt like there was no way to know if I was getting ripped off or not. It helped me at the store today! I was shocked that one of my supplement brands had concerning levels of arsenic in it.

  2. Arsenic! Glad this link helped. I’ve been using it as well to confirm the supplements I have at home are getting ‘A’ grades.
