Adafruit Holiday Gift Guide 2016: NeoPixel Products and Projects

NewImage

Now is the time to be festive and nothing can possibly be more festive than NEOPIXELS!!!! Below are some of our best selling NeoPixel products and some cool projects from our Learning System that you can give as a gift also.

NeoPixel Matrices

NewImage

Flexible 8×8 NeoPixel RGB LED Matrix: For advanced NeoPixel fans, we how have a bendable, Flexible 8×8 NeoPixel LED Matrix! Control all 64 ultra-bright LEDs using a single microcontroller pin, set each LED as you wish to scroll messages or draw little images. This matrix has a thick flexible PCB backing that can be gently bent and curved around surfaces. Read more. Check out all of our NeoPixel Matrices, sticks and more here!

NeoPixel Matrix Snowflake Sweater

Create a tacky sweater controlled by your phone! It’s easy to put together this Bluefruit and NeoPixel matrix circuit to display snowflakes in a sweater, and control the animation and color using the Adafruit Bluefruit LE Connect app for iOS or Android.

This is an easy project to build but probably not best for a “first project” as there are a lot of concepts being mixed together and the matrix can use quite a lot of power. You can build it with any of our Bluefruit products and the microcontroller of your choice, such as FLORA with its BLE module, or the all-in-one Feather 32u4 Bluefruit LE. See the full tutorial here!

NeoPixel Strips

NewImage

Adafruit NeoPixel Digital RGB LED Strip – White 60 LED – WHITE: You thought it couldn’t get better than our world-famous 32-LED-per-meter Digital LED strip but we will prove you wrong! You wanted twice the LEDs? We got it (well, its 1.875 times as many but that’s within a margin of error). You wanted thinner strips? Now only 12.5 mm wide, 10 mm if you remove the strip from the casing. You wanted less noticeable strip color – this strip has white-colored flex PCB, which will be less visible against white-painted walls. This is the strip with white flex PCB, its identical to the black 60 LED/meter except it has a different color mask on the flex strip. Check out all of our NeoPixel Strips here!

Gemma 3D Printed Tree Topper

Start a new tradition and design your own Tree Topper. Celebrate this holiday with DIY electronics from Adafruit. Our tutorial will show you how to use Autodesk’s 123D Design software and a 3D Printer to create a custom tree topper.

This is a great “Learn to 3D model & print” project as the shape is fairly simple, snaps together and can be customized. See the full tutorial here!

Individual NeoPixels

NewImage

Flora RGB Smart NeoPixel version 2 – Pack of 4: What’s a wearable project without LEDs? Our favorite part of the Flora platform is these tiny smart pixels. Designed specifically for wearables, these updated Flora NeoPixels have ultra-cool technology: these ultra-bright LEDs have a constant-current driver cooked right into the LED package! The pixels are chainable – so you only need 1 pin/wire to control as many LEDs as you like. They’re easy to sew, and the chainable design means no crossed threads. Check out all of our individual NeoPixel offerings here!

Glowing 3D printed Coat Buttons

Stay warm this winter season with 3D Printed NeoPixel coat buttons, powered by Gemma, Adafruit tiny wearables electronic platform. See the full tutorial here!

NeoPixel Rings

NewImage

NeoPixel Ring – 16 x 5050 RGB LED with Integrated Drivers: Round and round and round they go! 16 ultra bright smart LED NeoPixels are arranged in a circle with 1.75″ (44.5mm) outer diameter. The rings are ‘chainable’ – connect the output pin of one to the input pin of another. Use only one microcontroller pin to control as many as you can chain together! Each LED is addressable as the driver chip is inside the LED. Each one has ~18mA constant current drive so the color will be very consistent even if the voltage varies, and no external choke resistors are required making the design slim. Power the whole thing with 5VDC (4-7V works) and you’re ready to rock. Check out our full line of NeoPixel Rings here!

Bluetooth Controlled NeoPixel Headphones

NewImage

Headphones are incredibly ubiquitous. They can range from different sizes to styles, comfort to noise cancelling and now even wireless bluetooth. Here’s an upgrade you won’t find on even the biggest brands. RGB LEDs.

This DIY upgrade uses NeoPixel LED rings and an Adafruit Feather Bluefruit LE module to make slick lighting effects.

With The Adafruit Bluefruit LE connect app for iOS or Android, you can change the colors of the LEDs using a color picker and even trigger dope animations with the tap of a button.

The 3D printed enclosures keep everything together and doesn’t add too much weight or bulk to your pair of headphones.
