Let’s get together and give back today #OPENCYBERMONDAY #CyberMonday #CyberMondaydeals

Cyber-1

Hey folks, during the fury of deals and more for CyberMonday, we wanted to point to some open-source hardware / software and groups that could use our collective support too. While the credit card is out, we’ll be tweeting some organizations that only can exist if we support them. We’ve additionally emailed some of our favorite sites like HACKADAY and MAKE and they’re going to help out too.

Like securely making payments online? You can thank open source software, we’ve all built businesses and more on top and with open source, let’s give back today too. Stuff breaks, real humans need to fix it, many of them do not get paid or just do it for the love of creating, sharing and securing the bonkers thing we call the internet.

We’ll be tweeting all day and night on the Adafruit twitter account, we’re using the tag(s) – #OPENCYBERMONDAY #CyberMonday #CyberMondaydeals

Maybe this will be a “thing”.

We’ll update this post with who/what/why we’ve donated, along with other updates and more. Picture above, CyberCat, he’s from the future to warn us that it’s in our nature to destroy ourselves.

And pictured here, the start of a logo image of all the sites that participated with a post, we’ll update this all day too. So far, ADAFRUIT & HACKADAY, we’ve added the OSI logo because it’s what’s considered the open-source logo.

Update: Here we go! ADAFRUIT, Hackaday, MAKE, Digi-key / MAKER.IO are tweetin’ away! #OpenCyberMonday

…and! Looks like there were a bunch-o-tweets!

Wow! Folks around the world did a great job pointing to orgs to support such as WordPress, Python foundation, EFF, Mapbox, ImageOptim, Oshwa, OHSummit, OpenStreetMapUS, Creative Commons, Wikipedia, Archive.org, eclipseiot, Wikimedia, RetroPie, lulzbot3d, Freedomotic, Eclipse Foundation, reprap, owasp, org, apache.org and many many more.
