“Light Outside the Box” is a take on the saying ‘think outside the box’ which entails thinking creatively from a new perspective. This interactive light sculpture is designed to look different, from different angles. The structure was welded out of 1.5” steel square tubing, and reflects the clean-cut, conventional and urban box culture in our society today. Hidden inside the structure are 4 COB LED strips, 4 MaxSonar-EZ0 distance sensors (situated every 90˚), 1 Arduino, and 4 Tip122 chips. The strong LEDs cast shadows off the structure, and onto the floor and walls surrounding it. Viewers are able to walk around the piece to cast shadows of their own. LED strips becomes dimmer as people go closer. This demonstrates how humans are compelled to that which is conventional, and how we see less when we are only in the presence of the conventional – we are not able to see the bigger picture or think creatively.
Each Monday is ArduinoMonday here at Adafruit! Be sure to check out our posts, tutorials and new Arduino related products. Adafruit manufactures the Arduino right here in the United States in cooperation with arduino.cc. We have a huge selection of Arduino accessories and all the code and tutorials to get you up and running in no time!
Stop breadboarding and soldering – start making immediately! Adafruit’s Circuit Playground is jam-packed with LEDs, sensors, buttons, alligator clip pads and more. Build projects with Circuit Playground in a few minutes with the drag-and-drop MakeCode programming site, learn computer science using the CS Discoveries class on code.org, jump into CircuitPython to learn Python and hardware together, or even use Arduino IDE. Circuit Playground Express is the newest and best Circuit Playground board, with support for MakeCode, CircuitPython, and Arduino. It has a powerful processor, 10 NeoPixels, mini speaker, InfraRed receive and transmit, two buttons, a switch, 14 alligator clip pads, and lots of sensors: capacitive touch, IR proximity, temperature, light, motion and sound. A whole wide world of electronics and coding is waiting for you, and it fits in the palm of your hand.
