Germany Is Threatening Biohackers with Jail and Fines
It seems regulators around the world are starting to take notice of the different forms that DIY bio can come in. This story is coming in on the coat tails of David Ishee’s Dalmatian breeding work. The German governments protection office has recently issued a statement summarized with:
“Any science enthusiast doing genetic engineering outside of a licensed facility, it wrote, might face a fine of €50,000 or up to three years in prison.”
The arrival of cheap DIY genetic engineering kits from companies like The Odin and Amino Labs have made DNA experimentation accessible to all.
Make a robot friend with Adafruit’s CRICKIT – A Creative Robotics & Interactive Construction Kit. It’s an add-on to our popular Circuit Playground Express, FEATHER and other platforms to make and program robots with CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. Start controlling motors, servos, solenoids. You also get signal pins, capacitive touch sensors, a NeoPixel driver and amplified speaker output. It complements & extends your boards so you can still use all the goodies on the microcontroller, now you have a robotics playground as well.
