Why is Rhodiola Rosea so Popular in Smart Drug Stacks?

Rhodiola Rosea is an stress reducing (adaptogen) herb that has been shown to exert an anti-fatigue effect. There are also studies suggesting that rhodiola can increase in mental performance and be an effective mood enhancer.  Rhodiola is a MAOI (monoamine oxidase inhibitor so best to avoid mixing with a SSRI (serotonin reuptake inhibitor).

Looking across some of the more popular pre-bundled nootropic stacks it appears about half are using rhodiola. While Alpha Brain, Optimind and Tru Brain are not using it. Mind Lab ProNootrobox (Rise) and Qualia are including widely varying amounts of rhodiola from 50mg to 300mg.

  1. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors are SERIOUS drugs. The monoamine oxidase family of enzymes play a vital role in the liver in safe removal of compounds found in various foods that would otherwise cause serious health problems. When you mess with these enzymes you need to be extremely careful. Check out the side effects and warnings listed on MAOI anti-depressants.

Combining these with foods rich in Tyramine can cause an extremely serious increase in blood pressure – which can be FATAL.

These foods include red wine, cheese, chocolate and wide range of others (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyramine#Occurrence)

You should not be posting articles like this that can have a serious impact on someone’s health without including appropriate warnings.
