Inventor Hahna Alexander created Solepower while working on a project at Carnegie Mellon. She was initially planning on making simple pair of light up boots, but ended up founding a company around a shoe based kinetic charger that generates power when stepped on.
The work boot has many applications in the forms of remote monitoring of location, safety (falls and lighting) and of course charging themselves and external devices such as a cell phone. The US Army is using the boots as a way to reduce the amount of batteries that need to be carried.
