Comicbookgirl19 is pioneering something really important … but first, what is the Comic Book Girl 19 show?
What is the Comic Book Girl 19 Show?
We are a homegrown production studio creating YouTube videos and documentaries about comics, movies, and our favorite shows, as well as weighing in on Hollywood shenanigans, pop-culture quagmires, and the insanity of the internet at large! We are completely independent and want to stay that way so that we can continue to bring you our honest opinions and in-depth analysis of your favorite media!
I’m going to provide a little context and about the now, in a few years every author, that’s right -every- author that launches a book will be doing something like what is happening today.
I love this show so much, Comic Book Girl 19 even has a robot.

About 10 years ago when Ladyada and I did an Adafruit todo list for the decade, we had “Adafruit subscription box” on the list. In the last year we’ve been able to do ADABOX, we’re up to ADABOX 005 with about 4,000 subscribers. Under that todo from 10 years ago, I had scrawled “DUNE subscription maybe”. The idea was that books will eventually be read, online, live from the creators and/or fans. I am so glad someone got to this, it would a little weird for Adafruit to do a DUNE box, we make electronics, we have a puppet show, we’re pretty out there, but this would be tough to convince a lot of folks at the company we should do 🙂 We’ll like to do a coloring book, Python for Kids… or maybe Art of Electronics.
Thank you ComicBookGirl19, my box arrived after some trading and begging, I’ll be there tonight at 6pm ET after some water of life.
Twitch streams people playing video games, that seemed bonkers at first, but Amazon bought Twitch, Amazon that sells books, and now Comic Book Girl 19 is doing what Oprah’s book club should do and really anyone else that loves and/or writes books. J.K. Rowling reading Harry Potter. George R. R. Martin reading Game of Thrones. Steven King reading. We’re all going to be cosplaying, reading books together, connecting with communities around the world that like particular book, streaming and interacting live. A buy button will only be a few pixels away to participate more.
Amazon made the smartest move, they bought Twitch for video games (almost $1b in cash), but the long “game” so to speak, was what is happening now.
It’s already happening elsewhere too. When you think of reading, usually Levar Burton comes up – he’s on this.
Lose yourself in a great story with LeVar Burton Reads. In each episode, host LeVar Burton (Reading Rainbow, Star Trek, Roots) hand-picks a different piece of short fiction, and reads it to you.
So this is an overview and one of those posts I’ll look back on 10 years from now and see if the prediction holds, reading books together, live, streaming, book subscriptions, cosplay and coming together over a story we happen to enjoy, or just wanting to connect with a group of people as we explore a new universe together.
