This Attractive Tech Patch Will Help You With Medications #WearableWednesday #wearabletech #medtech

How do you remember to take your medications or vitamin pills? Do you ask Alexa, set the timer on your phone or chance it all on your memory? Marianne Spiess has created an interesting prototype for a decorative patch that discreetly alerts the wearer when it’s time for a dose. Called Muisti, the Finnish word for memory, the patch gives a distinctive pattern of light as a reminder. It also has a RFID reader located underneath, allowing the wearer to scan the medication to trigger the next alarm.

This project was created for a Wearable Technology class at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand., which may sound familiar as I frequently find quality projects from this school. The students are designing for real world problems, and in this case, getting a visual reminder instead of a beep is a smart solution for people at a workplace or other quiet environment. The question then becomes the best way to incorporate the patch, whether it is on clothing or a fashion accessory. Small clip-on devices are becoming popular for personal alarm systems, and I could see this as a future form for this product. I hope Marianne is inspired to do more wearable work since this piece is off to a strong start. For those of you interested in RFID tech, check out Collin’s Lab for a great explanation.
