In an era of increasing privacy woes and user settings I find that a lot of people still don’t understand the basics, like chmod. And frankly reading the Wikipedia article or directing regular users to that article doesn’t exactly help visualize it – a simple tool is what’s needed! I keep a folder in my bookmarks to simple online tools I in/frequently use, and I’m adding this chmod helper to that folder – when I need it it’ll be there and when I need to explain chmod to others it’ll greatly simplify the process, showing octal and symbolic values that adjust with each setting click.
See chmod helper here.
