One click deploy for MakeCode and the amazing Adafruit Circuit Playground Express @MSMakeCode

One Step MakeCode

Adafruit is ecstatic to read about Scott and his 10 year-old making with our Circuit Playground Express board and Crickit robotics board.

They started out with the Soil Moisture Sensor tutorial on the Adafruit Learning System which uses Microsoft MakeCode. They have plans to scale up to a battlebot!

Admittingly, downloading code is a two-step process – saving to a hard/thumb drive then copying the code

s.UF2 file to the Circuit Playground which shows up as a flash drive itself.

Scott has written a short program which on Windows associates with .UF2 files such that is a new file is saved, the program automatically copies the code to the Circuit Playground Express! Great idea!

He says:

You can find source here https://github.com/shanselman/MakeCodeLaunchAndCopy if you’re a developer, just get .NET Core 2.1 and run my .cmd file on Windows to build it yourself. Feel free to make it a Windows Store App if you’re an overachiever. Pull Requests appreciated 😉

We love people innovating with Circuit Playground Express and Crickit. Let us know your adventures in the comments below.

Make a robot friend with Adafruit’s CRICKIT – A Creative Robotics & Interactive Construction Kit. It’s an add-on to our popular Circuit Playground Express, FEATHER and other platforms to make and program robots with CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. Start controlling motors, servos, solenoids. You also get signal pins, capacitive touch sensors, a NeoPixel driver and amplified speaker output. It complements & extends your boards so you can still use all the goodies on the microcontroller, now you have a robotics playground as well.
