A very handy Instructable by jenfoxbot discusses many of the dozens of microcontrollers available for people considering interactive electronics. She starts with “What is a microcontroller?”
A microcontroller is a “simple computer” that runs one program in a loop. They are designed to perform a single, specific task.
Then helps understand the differences between microcontrollers and a Raspberry Pi & other computers.
(Ed.: I don’t recommend attaching boards to ones skin long term, maybe sew one of the sewing friendly ones to a costume or use a carry case??)
